Release Notes

This is my "whoops" release. It includes a Setup program that will help you to install any missing pre-requisite components:
  • .NET Framework 2.0
  • Microsoft Office Primary Interop Assemblies for .NET (Office 2003 and Office 2007)
  • Visual Studio Tools for Office SE Runtime (build 940)
The Setup.exe also ensures that the necessary .NET Framework permissions are assigned to the add-in Assembly.

This release would not have been possible without Darryn Lavery's incredibly detailed article "Deploying Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Solutions Using Windows Installer".

Sorry about the size of the download - I'm having more difficulty than I'd like in trying to figure out how to create version-specific installers, and I'm hampered by the fact that the Office PIAs cannot be downloaded (they must be on the local drive when the install kicks off).

What Does It Support

That is, what have I tested this on?
  • Windows XP SP2 or later (32-bit), but not Windows XP (64-bit) or Windows Vista (any version)
  • Office 2003 SP2 or later
I also haven't tested it on Office 2007, but I'm led to believe it should work there as well (though it shows up in the legacy Addins tab as a Toolbar item - there's presently no Ribbon UI integration).

How to Install

  • Unzip the download and run Setup.exe
  • Allow it to download and/or install any prerequisite packages
  • Once the Setup.exe is finished preparing your system, it will automatically launch the MSI installer

Known Issues

  • The MSI does not upgrade any previous install of the add-in - you'll have to uninstall the old version first.
  • It appears that the Office 2003 PIAs will not be automatically installed by Setup.exe under any conditions.
  • It appears that the Office 2007 PIAs will always be installed by Setup.exe (even if they're already installed).
  • You may occasionally be prompted to "Save Changes" to the file when exiting Word. I'd recommended to just save the "changes" for now, if possible; I'll continue to investigate these circumstances and update it as appropriate. (Note: if you run Word as a non-Admin user, you won't be able to save the Template since it's stored in the %PROGRAMFILES% install directory.)
  • Please also see the Issue Tracker for any other known problems (and please add votes and/or Comments to any of those that you're experiencing), and add new Issue reports if you experience something that isn't documented.
